11. Day 7 - Burgos to Castrojeritz

After a wonderful evening in Burgos we got off to smooth start under clear skies and made good time  along the road to Villalbilla where we joined the Camino trail which was fairly easy riding for the 10k until we reached our lunch stop at Hornillos del Camino. Have to say the countryside was not overly inspiring, brown and fairly flat. The housing has changed in the villages to mostly mud brick which are beautifully kept. After lunch we did the next 15k on the trail and although it got a bit warm we managed fairly easily. Doing the last 5k on the road we hit Castrojeritz at 2.30 having done another 40k for the day. But again we had difficulty finding our 'hotel' and spent 45mins going round in circles until we arrived at the right place. This is not quite the style we have been experiencing but has it's advantages and will do us very nicely. The weather is warming up to the high twenties over the next few days so we are looking at our schedule very carefully. However
 very pleasing day. The "hotel" actually turned out to be a cabin in a caravan park which was more than adequate for our needs and our hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. The highlight was the view which was at the foot of a hill with the ruins of an old castle built in 760 for the Visigoth king Sigerici on the top. Had a couple of mishaps on the way today - first I lost my purse and then added to my somewhat impressive number of falls. Fortunately none of them too damaging. Only problem is that the large number of bruises are stopping me from achieving a suntan. Barry has only had one fall but unfortunately he did further damage to his previously injured wrist. He did manage to get a very good wrist band that is providing much needed support.
